The horrible beginning of the end of another war

Omaha Beach

June 6, 1944

Taking a wider view, during the Battle of Normandy over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing. This figure includes around 210,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 killed amongst the ground forces and a further 16,000 deaths amongst the Allied air forces. German losses of around 200,000 were killed or wounded; a further 200,000 were taken prisoner during the Campaign.

  1. I wish that schools were required to take field trips to the closest national cemetery. The rows upon rows of headstones is extremely humbling. Then maybe the students and especially the teachers will realize that they are all privileged to have the freedoms that they have instead of them being so willing to give up their rights for some perceived safety and government money.
The men that hit the beaches on the morning of June 6, 1944 were not afraid that some words might hurt their feelings. They were too worry about surviving the day.

    1. Apparently you haven’t been in a high school or middle school history class in some time. If you had, you would find many teachers and students who are experts on WW2, have visited cemeteries , and done in depth, national award winning research not only about WW2 , but other areas of American history. I am optimistic about the future of this country when I meet these kids.

      1. You are correct. My son graduate in 2005 and has been serving every since. He wanted to out rank me and does.

In my area, the emphasis in schools has been on the using incorrect pronouns and the dozens of genders, and taking away Rights. There is one student who identifies as a cat and must be allow to go to the “litter box”.

I asked my school board member neighbor if our board of education belongs to NSBA, which they do. The NSBA wanted to have the National Guard protect school board meetings (I am not making this up) but settled for the DOJ and FBI to investigate parents as domestic terrorist in a letter to the President back in September 2021. Why? Because parents wanted to exercise their parental rights and their 1st Amendment Rights. Our board vote are only rubber stamping what the State of NJ tells them to do. They have little choice. They only get to decide some hiring and firing and minor budget items in reality since so much is state mandated.

The kids and young adults in my area give me little hope for the United States as I know it. The stories my grandkids tell me is down right scary. Two of my grandchildren are now home schooled because they were not being taught the basics. (My DIL has her masters in education so she should know.)

I am so glad somewhere in America, children are learning how great America is instead of how the white founding fathers were oppressors and we are still that way today.
