When you get right down to it the President can’t do much by himself and it was designed that way. Given that reality a critical skill for the job is the ability to work with people to get things done, a team leader if you will.
This skill is especially important when you don’t have many members of Congress who share your views. Bush faced the problem during his last two years in office. Clinton faced the problem as well. Obama had all the power a President could have during his first two years and then faced the need to demonstrate that critical skill of team leader for the next two.
If Mr Obama has that skill, he apparently chooses not to use it in favor of demagoguery. In fact, in favor of such rhetoric he has ignored how own bi-partisan commission’s recommendations to deal with the major problems facing the Country. He and his administration criticize the opposition, but have not submitted their own plan on any of the major issues to deal with the deficit and debt despite having scores of ideas to consider presented to them at the President’s request.
