We can’t control what others do and we can’t stop misfortune from striking. But we can control our own actions. Those who are financially prudent will most likely enjoy success, even if events don’t always go their way.
What is your opinion of the Ryan plan for Medicare?
I will be 54 in Sept and therefore, would be subject to Paul Ryan’s “green stamp” approach for Medicare. Personally, I object, I think with creative solutions to keep costs down (such as what Obama has started with the provisions in PPACA), Medicare is a sustainable, and NECESSARY, safety net. If the Congress had to live under the exact same health plans that we do – buying their own, and subject to underwriting in the under 65 market (as I do as an entrepreneur) and then having to utilize Medicare and Social Security, I think the conversation would be different. My current question now is – WHY DO I PAY FOR THEIR HEALTH BENEFITS, WHEN ALL THEY DO IS TALK ABOUT STRIPPING ME OF MINE?
You pay for their benefits because they are employees of the government and participate in the same health plans that a million other federal employees participate in and which you pay for aside from their contributions which are substantial. This is essentially the same type of coverage as most Americans with employer overage have.
Members of Congress pay for and participate in Social Security and Medicare.
The “creative solutions” in Obamacare are not going to save Medicare. They essentially reduce payments to providers and spend the money elsewhere. The 165 trial programs within the bill are unlikely to result in any substantial savings and certainly not to the magnitude necessary.
