The Hospital Trust is only part of the story. Part B has no trust fund as such; what isn’t covered by taxes simply just keeps coming from general revenue with no limit.
Medicare is important to all Americans, me included, but to delude Americans with the carrot of “modest reforms” is cruel and leading us to believe that once again this is on the wealthy is deceitful.
Medicare needs fundamental restructuring (no I’m not talking vouchers or privatization) to make it viable for a growing population. What it doesn’t need is liberal band aids on a broken leg of government.
Our President is either extremely naive or sadly misinformed.
“The biggest driver of our long-term debt is the rising cost of health care for an aging population,” “And those of us who care deeply about programs like Medicare must embrace the need for modest reforms – otherwise, our retirement programs will crowd out the investments we need for our children, and jeopardize the promise of a secure retirement for future generations.”
