Listening to the radio the other day I heard a clip from Air Force One in which a White House spokesmen said, “Our allies overseas can’t understand why Republicans are opposing one of their own for Secretary of Defense.”
That struck me as indicative of today’s politics, one of their own? To me that implies that because the candidate is a Republican he must be qualified in the eyes of every other Republican. If there were credence to that way of thinking every Democrat should be opposed to the nominee, yet it is quite the reverse. I have no idea if Hagel is the best qualified person to run the US military and neither does any member of the Senate.
However, logic would tell us we want the best qualified person Republican, Democrat or chimpanzee (not sure the third choice is different from the first two). But of course we are way beyond logic in politics, I think I mean way short of logic.
The left dismisses Republicans as Neanderthals and dismisses their positions as obstructive. The right insists on blind opposition to everything sometimes relying on half truths and lies thus giving legitimacy to the cave man claim.
Wouldn’t it be nice to make decisions based on facts, to make promises we can keep and afford and to tell Americans the truth?
Now I’m the one stretching the bounds of logic.

Mr. Quinn – you are intelligent and you know this as well as I do, but you can’t say it because you want to preserve your blog. The right-wing Republicans in the Senate from the southern states with white redneck racist constituencies that hate all “minorities” are deathly afraid of losing their next election and having to find a real job. In order to preserve their seats in the Senate, they must oppose anything and everything that black President Obama tries to accomplish. They will go so far as to destroy our slowly recovering economy and will support maniacal Wayne LaPierre as he becomes even more wealthy by promoting the sale of more and more guns to the mentally ill and deranged survivalists in our nation. LaPierre preaches that universal background checks on gun sales will make no difference and will do no good. If that is true, why is he so vehemently opposed to that legislation? President Obama gets it. He’s been there. He’s lived it. He knows what to do to bring back out nation’s economy. Republican economic theories and policies have just failed miserably in Europe. House Republicans are too stupid to lead and refuse to follow. They must just get out of the way and let our nation succeed.
