The amount of controversy is well known. Democrats applaud them and Republicans want to make them go away. I’m betting many Americans think the new health insurance exchanges will change health care in America. I also think many people believe the exchanges will alleviate the problem of millions of Americans without health insurance. These people are wrong.

Most of the 7 million people projected to shop for coverage in new online health insurance marketplaces, also called exchanges, will be eligible for the subsidies, expected to average $5,290 per enrollee.
