I’m going out on a limb a bit saying this before there is a done deal, but let’s hope the far right Republicans have learned a lesson. Obamacare is not going away and even misguided efforts to tweak it are DOA. The idea of delaying the medical device tax and delaying the reinsurance fee on health plans seem to have evaporated, but even if they reappear, what value is there in such delays except to muddy the waters more?
And then there is this: Conservatives argue that federal contributions to their health insurance, which the health law requires them to purchase in the new online marketplaces, is an unfair subsidy. But Democrats say the government is just providing the same support that it has in the past and is in line with what other big employers give workers. The Democrats are right.
In any case, now is not the time to be playing games with the law. A comprehensive, well thought out plan for changes to make things better yes. Playing games with the Country’s credibility, no. It’s a good thing for Republicans Americans have a short memory when it comes time to vote.
