Unless you live in New Jersey you really can’t appreciate Governor Christie’s pickle with the George Washington Bridge. The petty stupidity of the thing is beyond comprehension and can you imaging in this day and age supposedly smart people putting their traffic jam plot in an e-mail? Like it’s a secret that e-mail is out there forever and easily discoverable. 😳
Now we come to really fun part, six people have filed a class action lawsuit. One claims she suffered a panic attack while waiting in traffic at the bridge. When have cars not waited in traffic crossing the GW? The thing is in a constant state of repair of some kind. And then there are the people suing because they were late for work and in one case had their pay docked. I don’t know who is worse the claimants or the lawyer who took the case.
Like all this is anything new. Umm, could every delay crossing the Tappan Zee or driving down I95 or I287 really be nothing more than political retribution? I’m feeling a tad paranoid.
All this is a bit scary though. Just think about the integrity of the people we elect and who are appointed on our behalf. Bridgegate is small potatoes in the scheme of things. Just recall all the shenanigans at the federal level.
Of course politicians are going to make the most of this as is the press which no matter your political persuasion I find a bit insulting. In a matter of hours one Committee or another has collected thousands of pages of documents, hearings have been set up, the hunt is underway. In the meantime really important decisions languish in Congress and State houses.
A few road cones, blocked lanes and commuter delays get the sharks circulating; we should be so lucky managing our governments.
Fire the morons and move on. We all know this is not the first nor last such nonsense Republican or Democrat. Thank God it isn’t the Tea Party 😄
Power corrupts; remember!

yes…power does corrupt…we have all experienced( I believe) this phenomenon at one level or another either organizationally or watching the behavior of our political leaders. And it exists across the political party spectrum. The person you admired and supported suddenly becomes a malignant narcissist.Difficult to understand but apparently part of the human condition . Ultimately it differentiates great leadership from failed leadership.
While the jury is still out on Bridgegate and the governor’s direct involvement , the arbitrary manipulation of local traffic flow is not uncommon and created in many instances by local municipalities.
About 4 years ago the traffic flow was markedly constrained to one lane of a two lane route 1 and 9 north. For those not familiar with this stretch of road suffice it to say it is one of the most heavily traveled roads in the country and a heavily used “truck route” from bergen to hudson county. You had to factor in an additional 30-40 minutes into your normal commute.
And yet day after day there were no workmen present(state, county), just road blocks and sand bags for a stretch of about a mile or more. This went on for months until I guess enough commuters got fed up. Eventually a local paper investigated and found out that the practice was not only legal but the municipality involved actually benefited financially with subsidies from the state for keeping the right lane closed to traffic (and even on days when no work was being done on the road)!
Outrageous, but i am wondering whether those negatively impacted sued.

The lawyers are blood suckers. They look for every opportunity to get a suit going. The advertise on TV all the time about things that set peoples thoughts in motion to sue someone. This needs to end. Obviously we do need lawyers for certain issues but not all the ridiculous things they encourage folks to sue for. I personally had a situation many years ago. My 19 year old daughter was crossing the street at a stop sign on her bike. A local pool repair truck came to the stop sign and scared her but she claims (based on her lawyer friend) the truck hit her. She skinned her knee and went to the ER to have it dressed. It cost me $10 co pay at the time. That was the extent of my $ out lay. Her friend convinced her to sue the pool company and a settlement was made after I had told her to NOT file a claim. She got $5K and the lawyer got a sum greater than that. Then she complained to me why her insurance was so high. Duh!
