Stating the obvious for a free and open economy

2014

Here is what people in America think. Interesting that you don’t here this full message from our current leaders.

Most voters continue to support an economic system that provides everyone a chance to succeed, and they generally believe it is fair and helpful for the economy to let those who are successful become very rich.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 83% of Likely U.S. Voters now think it is at least somewhat important for the economic system to provide everybody with an opportunity to succeed. This is down three points from October’s all-time high. Just 14% do not think that this is important, up from a record low of 10% in October. This includes 59% who think it’s Very Important for everyone to have a chance to succeed, and just four percent (4%) who think it’s Not At All Important. Recent Rasmussen survey

For the naysayers, tell us again why our system does not provide everyone a chance to succeed. You know, just like the pursuit of happiness.

  1. I think that everyone in this country has a chance to succeed, just not the same chance. The probability that someone coming from a more financially well off family will succeed, in general is greater than someone born into poverty. The probability that someone born with a high IQ will succeed, is greater than someone with a below average IQ. A very tall person will probably succeed on a basketball court more often than a short person… and on and on it goes. The fact is, everyone has a chance to succeed. Some will say it’s not fair and they will be right. The world is not fair. The gods of fortune don’t smile on everyone equally. Some may think that they can correct this inequality through legislation but legislation won’t make a stupid man smart or a short man tall. How many people would agree that a winner leaving a casino should distribute his winnings with all those who lost their money gambling because they had bad luck?
The world is not fair and life is a crap shoot… get over it. Just do the best you can.
