The fundamental problems facing Obamcare

2014

◼️ Young adults make up about 40% of the uninsured (non-elderly)

◼️ This group represents only 25% of the current enrollment in Obamacare

◼️ According to surveys, high costs are the reason given by 50% of the individuals who have not enrolled

◼️ That cost is driven in large part by the many mandates added to insurance plans and the fact individuals over age 30 generally may not purchase catastrophic coverage

◼️ If all the CBO assumptions for enrollment are met, there will still be about 30 million uninsured Americans

To make Obamacare successful will require selling products that people want and can afford to buy (tax credits notwithstanding) and not products bureaucrats think people should have.

The Obama administration takes great pride in claiming that the Affordable Care Act has lowered health care costs which is misleading at best. The ACA puts expanding coverage ahead of controlling costs, but then creates an environment adding to the cost of insurance.

Over time the Law will be fixed, but in the meantime the United States still has a cost and coverage problem while the unrealistic expectations Americans have for “affordable” and unrestricted access to health care cannot be met … ever!

  1. A couple of comments. First off, I know of no one who is claiming Obamacare makes helath care cheaper. That was a claim used to pass it, but now, I can’t think of anyone who still tries to make that claim.

I find this posting to be an interesting juxtaposition with the one you posted later, the one that is simply a graphic extolling the dangers of going uninsured. The instant I saw that graphic, I thought to myself “you cannot get blood from a stone.” No matter how logical it is to carry insurance, Obamacare is simply too darned expensive for the working class. This posting of yours proves my point.

In case anyone manages to put blinders on, and extoll the virtues of Obamacare to an uninsured population why cannot afford it, let me shamelessly quote a paragraph from today’s Best of the Web column over at the Wall Street Journal:

“Do you recall ever seeing a column before ObamaCare urging young people to get insurance? The case would have been stronger back then, both because policies were less expensive and because the risks of going without were greater (no longer will you become uninsurable if you’re diagnosed with a serious illness).”
