As a 29-year-old single mom, Angele’s life revolves around her young daughter. She works as a temp clerk at a New Orleans mammography clinic, stays on top of her bills and pays her taxes. But she hasn’t had health insurance for the past three years – it was just too expensive.

“It was scary to live without knowing what would happen if I got really sick or if I had a serious accident.”

That all changed when a colleague at the clinic told her about the Health Insurance Marketplace. She went on HealthCare.gov and was able to enroll in a Silver health plan and a dental plan for a total of less than $18 a month! Her coverage began February 1 – she’s already been to the doctor for a consultation.

“I want everybody – moms, dads, college students, and anybody looking for affordable health care – to know that they have a chance to find quality coverage in their price range. In fact, 6 out of 10 uninsured Americans could get coverage for $100 or less a month.”

There are only a couple of weeks left before the March 31 open enrollment deadline, so don’t delay. Get covered today.

There are simple ways to shop for coverage and enroll in a plan. You can enroll online at HealthCare.gov; over the phone at the 24/7 call center at 1-800-318-2596; or directly through an issuer, agent, or broker. You can also find in-person assistance in your community at localhelp.healthcare.gov.

And while this 29 year old gets a great deal, here are typical monthly premiums for various plan options paid by employees of a Fortune 500 company; the people whose taxes are subsidizing her coverage. And these premiums apply regardless of income. Premiums for working Americans are considered “affordable” as long as the don’t exceed 9.5% of household income. Dental coverage is extra. The $50 credit is given to employees who waive coverage because they have insurance through spouses coverage. The lowest cost plan has an annual deductible of $2,000 single/$4,000 family.

IT’S HARD TO SEE HOW ALL THIS IS FAIR OR AFFORDABLE, A PERSON WORKING FOR AN EMPLOYER THAT PROVIDES COVERAGE CAN PAY OVER SIXTEEN TIMES AS MUCH FOR HEALTH INSURANCE, PLUS THE COST OF DENTAL INSURANCE

Note: to reach an $18 monthly premium, her income must be around $15,000 to $16,000 a year, her child would not be enrolled in the exchange, but rather CHIPS.

  1. yes absolutely absurd….one would have to be totally naive to think an additional 30 million people could be covered , premiums would fall as much as 2500 dollars and you could keep your doctor/hospital etc.Yes its all free….thanks to the caring democrat party….. and there for the taking.

the ahc scam is nothing more than a massive income re-distribution scheme dressed in sheep’s clothing! Everything is affordable as long as someone else is doing the paying.
