Krugman voluntarily pays 90% income tax rate to help ease inequality.

Okay, that headline is pure fantasy. I made it up to get your attention.

20140204-174625.jpgBut gollyyyyyyyyyyy, you would think the champion of equality via higher taxes on the wealthy who actually earn their money would be quite generous with his sweetheart deals. Perhaps I misjudge him, maybe he is one of those generous Americans who write a check to the Treasury to help reduce the federal debt… in any case 🐉

According to a Bloomberg.com (4-16-14 Virginia Postrel), Krugman has been hired as:

a “distinguished professor” at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, attached to its Luxembourg Income Study Center. He’ll be paid a nine-month salary of $225,000, or what a horrified Gawker writer describes as $25,000 a month or “more than quadruple New York City’s median household income.” He won’t have to teach the first year and will only have a single seminar after that.

“You will not be expected to teach or supervise students,” says an offer letter obtained by Gawker through a freedom-of-information request. “Instead you will be asked to contribute to our build-up of LIS and the inequality initiative and to play a modest role in our public events.”

In other words, they are buying his image good, bad or indifferent. Is that what you call the conscience of a liberal?

It would appear it’s okay to be unequal as long as you do it fighting inequality. I’m fine with that, if you can sell your name and reputation for $25,000 a month, go for it. I hope Mr Krugman can find a way to pay an effective tax-rate under 21% like the President. How about we all become equal with a flat tax of 20%?
