230.326; that’s the number that forms the base for any increase in Social Security benefits for 2015. Compare that number to the average CPI-W for the months of July, August and September 2014.
The CPI-W has increased slightly in the last three months. In March it was 232.560, in April it was 233.443 and in May it was 234.216. For the month of May the index rose 0.3 percent prior to seasonal adjustment. That’s an average of 233.406 which is 1.32% higher than the base.
REMEMBER: The actual calculation will be based on the average CPI-W for the months of July, August and September 2014. What you see now is only an indication of the current trend.
