The politically correct bureaucracy in action

For the last couple of years along the Merritt Parkway and Hutchinson River Parkway in Connecticut and New York they have been redoing the rest areas. There is no doubt they needed a facelift, but one wonders given the condition of many roads if that should have been a top priority.

In any case, these rest areas are very close to the highway, there are limited parking spaces and little room to maneuver. The buildings are all new; devoting most of the space to a Subway and convenience store. The rest rooms, which for most people are the main cause for a stop I would assume, are tiny. The stalls are small and the women have only two, the same as the men which results in women waiting in line out the door. Can that be anything but dumb when a complete redo presented the opportunity for more space?

The outside is worse. The gas pumps are in the middle of the parking area and cause traffic jams routinely, but it gets better.

Several of the limited parking spaces are consumed with politically correct parking, in addition to handicap spaces. For example:

I wonder if these same planners were hired to design the Obamacare administrative systems?

      1. Tesla website says that use of their chargers are free forever.

        Drive

Taking delivery of your Model S is only the beginning. You’ll find extra time in your day by never stopping at a gas station and you can drive for free using Tesla’s growing network of Superchargers. Your Model S will also receive frequent software updates over the air ensuring that your car will get better over time, not more out of date.

But as usual, free means that somebody else pays the cost. Think about the loss of gasoline tax that electric cars don’t pay towards building and maintaining roads or the subsidy from Federal and state tax for the initial purchase that other taxpayers must pick up. Isn’t FREE stuff great

  1. Quit complaining. Obviously, this represents someone’s idea of the rightful place for gas powered cars driven by 98 percent of Americans. Obviously, the current leadership idiots don’t care about this 98 percent.

You say Connecticut? They don’t and won’t get any money from me. … Off my list of potential travel locations, and will avoid when possible. Thanks for the tip.
