These stories crack me up and in my mind point out the incredible absurdity of the Obama administrations agenda. Hey, raise the minimum wage. Despite the overselling, that will no doubt help some people pay their bills, but please don’t insult us with this nonsense.
If I am wrong, tell me so and tell me why, please‼️
Here is a young women earning $9.84 who claims raising the minimum wage to $10.10 will allow her to quit her second job and change her life. How stupid is that statement❓
Then we are told she can’t afford to buy a $100 battery for her car, but she can afford to buy her boyfriend a birthday present and take him out to dinner. Now there is an example of the convoluted priorities of our young people. Oh, she can also afford a cell phone … is that a necessity of life?
And here is my favorite statement, “I knew I couldn’t waste much time looking for work – paying off my student loans was my top priority.” Waste time looking for a job relevant to your college education❓❓❓ Guess what, finding a good job relevant to your college education was your top priority. Are you kidding me, really❓
Holy cow, the height of the recession was five years ago. And now that you have wasted those five years and your resume looks like a college graduate loser, it will be much tougher to get a good job. How will you explain to a recruiter what you have been doing the last five years? What skills have you honed? Oh right, the solution to your predicament is to raise your hourly rate by twenty-six cents.
What may be worse is that our government is arrogant enough to release this garbage propaganda.

President Obama’s proposal to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour would benefit 28 million hardworking Americans and I’m one of them. My name is Amanda DeShazo, I live in Tacoma, Washington and I have two jobs. Currently I work as a sales associate at a retail store making $9.84 an hour and as a server to support myself and pay off my student loans.
Growing up with a single mom, it was sometimes a struggle to buy the basic necessities. When I wanted to go to college, my mom told me we didn’t have the money to pay for my education. I had to work and take out loans to pay for everything – my classes, books, housing, food – all the basic necessities every incoming freshman needs to get by. When graduation rolled around, it was during the height of the recession — I wasn’t able to find a job. I knew I couldn’t waste much time looking for work – paying off my student loans was my top priority.
But even though I have two jobs, it’s barely enough to get by.
Money is always tight. My car needs a new battery and I have been putting it off because I just can’t afford it. It’s necessary for me to buy one in order to get to my jobs but the cost of the battery is about $100 dollars, and since I don’t have enough extra cash at the moment, I can’t buy it. My car hasn’t died yet, but I know that it’s going to happen soon, and then I will probably have to buy a battery on credit, and add more to my debt! It’s a never ending cycle.
This past weekend was my boyfriend’s birthday, and all of the extra money I had went to getting him a gift and to take him out to dinner. I am constantly running in to issues like this, especially when the holidays come around. I have to budget and sometimes buy less food for the week if I know that I need to purchase something ahead of time.
Working around the clock, I also have to miss important events, especially birthdays or other holidays. My jobs require me to work holidays and weekends and I consider myself lucky if I get to have a holiday off to spend with my family. I couldn’t tell you how many birthdays or Thanksgivings I have had to give up because of my work schedule.
An increase in the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would allow me to work only one job and remain financially stable. With the extra money in my pocket, it would be a relief knowing that I wouldn’t have to work as much. More importantly I could finally stop having to make difficult decisions like choosing between paying my rent or paying my student loans on time.

Atta Boy, Mr. Quinn. You searched until you could find a posting by a struggling young lady that you could nit pick and then declare it to be overwhelming evidence that the administration’s agenda is absurd. Your biased rantings are becoming absurd.

I did no such searching. It was sent to me by DOL and I suspect to millions of other people. Instead of criticizing me, tell me exactly where my assessment is incorrect. Is my twenty-six cent analysis wrong? Should she have spent money on a birthday as opposed to a battery necessary to work or am I wrong that her post college priorities were screwed up? Give me a logical response.

Add to this that entry level people face the Obamacare law that now has them restricted to jobs that they can only work 29 hours a week. So even with a minimum wage raise how can anyone live on 29 hours or less a week?

What part of the Obamacare law restricts people to a 29 hour workweek? I must have missed that part. If this is true, it is a bad law and congress should abolish it.

I think he is referring to employers trying to keep working hours under 30 to avoid the mandate, but I suspect you know that.

Yes Jack, it is the mandate in the law that employers have to pay for healthcare If the employee works over 29 hours a week. Many companies have reduced employees hours to less than 29 because of it. Darden Restaurants is openly public about fact that they reduced their national chains employees to below 29 hours. Many larger companies have made the same move and talk to an entry level worker looking for a job, only 29 hours is available to them. Yes Jack, this should be repealed!
