I recently read this comment on Facebook:
Billions of $$$ were spent on this last election by billionaires who want THEIR guy in office. How do WE beat that?
I suspect many people feel that way and certainly the liberal left likes to pound that drum (even though they take the money too).
But is that the problem? Last time I looked the guy with $100 had the same number of votes as the guy with $50,000,000,000.
So what we are actually saying is that the wealthy give money to generate advertising, etc. to persuade voters to vote for their guy. Doesn’t that only work because voters are under informed, uninformed and just stupid?
Then when the guy is elected once, voters who have little knowledge of what he or she did or how they were influenced just re-elect them term after term.
And while the politician is in office they allow themselves to be influenced, sometimes contrary to the wishes of the people they represent?
So the problem is the wealthy who contribute to elections, really?
