I find Krugman fascinating, he can find an issue just about anywhere. Did you know you are likely fat because of Republicans, no really‼️ On the other hand, in true liberal fashion he always finds a way to place the blame on others for personal problems. In this case people are overweight because Republicans oppose nutritional labeling and they do so because they receive the most money from the pizza lobby; sort of like Democrats oppose tort reform because they get the most money from … you know who. Oh, and Democrats overwhelmingly create massive liabilities for state government workers pensions and benefits because they get virtually all the money from public employee unions.

🍕But back to the pizza thing. What Krugman and his liberal buddies really want to say is that most Americans are simply too stupid to take care of themselves. This leads to the belief that with proper labeling average people will make better food choices and hence avoid obesity. He notes that the fattest Americans reside in Republican states, a true fact. Of course, they used to be Democratic states.

Last year or so Panera started showing the calories on each of its bakery and other products.  I learned that a pecan sticky bun had nearly a full day’s supply. Out of curiosity I began asking at Paneras around the Country if showing all those calories had affected the sale of those items. I have yet to receive a yes reply.

So what does this all mean? Republicans can’t be trusted because they think people should decide for themselves and Democrats can be trusted because they know only big government can protect people from their own bad decisions in life❓🍻

If the average American living in Georgia, 🍩Alabama or Mississippi does not know that pizza, french fries or a sticky bun are not great healthy food choices, maybe they are just stupid Teapublicans. Or perhaps they know and don’t care.🍟

Should we care? Should the federal government care?

No, really. A recent Bloomberg report noted that major pizza companies have become intensely, aggressively partisan. Pizza Hut gives a remarkable 99 percent of its money to Republicans. Other industry players serve Democrats a somewhat larger slice of the pie (sorry, couldn’t help myself), but, over all, the politics of pizza these days resemble those of, say, coal or tobacco. And pizza partisanship tells you a lot about what is happening to American politics as a whole.

Why should pizza, of all things, be a divisive issue? The immediate answer is that it has been caught up in the nutrition wars. America’s body politic has gotten a lot heavier over the past half-century, and, while there is dispute about the causes, an unhealthy diet — fast food in particular — is surely a prime suspect. As Bloomberg notes, some parts of the food industry have responded to pressure from government agencies and food activists by trying to offer healthier options, but the pizza sector has chosen instead to take a stand for the right to add extra cheese.
