Insight into health insurance decisions

Payor insights from McKinsey&Company provides an interesting look at the thinking of those who buy and do not buy health insurance. Following is a small sample. You can see the entire report at the link here: 2015 OEP: Insight into consumer behavior



Note the lack of awareness of subsidy amounts and of the penalty for not having health insurance. Observe that 45% of this group do not think they need health insurance. My favorite comment is “I’d rather save my money” … and spend somebody else’s I guess. 😬 Given the massive communications in every media possible, it’s a bit scary that 41% of those surveyed are unaware of the penalty for not carrying health insurance. 👀

These perspectives do not bode well for The continued growth of Americans with health insurance. We should all hope these uninformed folks stay healthy for a long time.
