I wonder how Mayor DiBlasio knows what’s going on in New York City? He seems to have found plenty of reasons not to be there.😬
His progressive Contract with America is the latest far left scam on the American people. His and his never had a real job compatriots are scary folks. They make great promises, make it all sound so good and so easy and all at the expense of someone other than you. Guess what, it doesn’t work that way even in the socialist democracies so loved by Bernie Sanders.
These progressives are either very stupid (not likely) or simply ignore the relationship of one thing to another or the consequences of their proposals. For example, look at the studies related to pre-k and its lasting positive results. The results are mixed at best. Consider the impact on the cost of goods and services if the minimum wage is doubled and the higher minimum wage bumps up against other wages. Selling Obamacare was all about affordable premiums and now studies show many people avoid health care because of the high deductibles necessary to keep premiums lower. Consider the impact raising pay will have on income based entitlements, even the Obamacare subsidies. It’s not all good, there are consequences.
Legislatively raising the income for Americans means all boats rise with the tide. Think about what that actually means. You cannot simply stay in place with a raise now and then and get anywhere. The message should not be “we will raise your pay, increase your government benefits and you will be better off,” because you won’t. Ask the people who have been in this position for decades.
The message should be “You may start at the bottom, but your goal must be to move upward at a steady pace to improve your earnings.” There are many ways to do that. One is education and skills training coupled with experience. But the most important factors are ambition, attitude, communication skills, taking risks, adding value and interpersonal skills … and that’s the truth👌 The truth is not more dependence on others and on the system as the Progressives would lead you to believe. Just look around you, who are the most successful people at all economic levels, within all ethnic and racial groups? They are the doers not the takers. Ask yourself why individuals with similar backgrounds, who attend the same schools end up in very different places in life.
Look at it this way, we all want the best for our children. How do we accomplish that? We care for them when they cannot care for themselves. We instill values and a sense of responsibility, we hold them accountable and we gradually let them go, perhaps to fail a bit or suffer the consequences of bad decisions.
However, there is another way to go. Spoil them, give them everything they ask for, make them work for nothing and bail them out for every bad decision; condition them to be dependent on us as parents even into adulthood.
Which approach allows the next generation to succeed, to be better off than the previous? Which approach shows the greatest respect for the child?
“The goal of fighting income inequality in this country is going to mean a tremendous amount of reform. It’s going to mean progressive things, like closing the carried interest loophole and the Buffet rule. It’s going to take supporting families with things like paid family leave and pre-k. Certainly going to take raising wages and benefits — I’m a big believer in the $15 minimum wage.”
The mayor of New York City continued saying, “We have other realities that are structural — there’s structural racism in this country. Mass incarceration flows exactly out of that.”
“In New York City, right now, we are intensely reducing the flow of particularly men of color into our correctional system with bail reform, summons reform — a host of things — mental health services, and I think this is part of what we have to do nationally to stop that pipeline to prison and then help those returning to become really a part of the economy.”
De Blasio went on to say of “The Progressive Contract with America” in its current form, “we’re trying to start with the core — wages, benefits, progressive taxation — the kinds of things that will lay a foundation for addressing income inequality.” Pittsburgh Couriers
