Look at this chart. It represents the number of MRI units per one million of population. Some will argue that having too many such (and similar) facilities encourages overuse because they must be paid for. Others recognize that limited availability means longer wait times and perhaps lesser quality care.
The last time my wife had an MRI it took less than 24 hours to get the appointment and she traveled two miles; speed, convenience and possibly higher cost?
The point is that this is just a small example of the kind of trade offs Americans will have to make under a single-payer government run system.
