The so called money needed for retirement numbers are not even a good guess, in most cases. Sure the money managers want you to invest more in your retirement plans, that way they make more money in fees. No one I know is living large in retirement, most are spending no more than $20,000 on utilities, food, insurance, and transportation. No mortgage, no debt, not even a car payment, that is the secret. I know people who have dumped cable or satellite TV, for cheaper streaming services or just use an outdoor antenna, old school, for free TV. Average savings $720 per year.
People need to be taught money management, many waste hundreds of dollars per month on things they really do not need.
