From a Miami paper on why health care costs are rising:
“more costs are shifted to patients by insurers with higher deductibles and co-payments. This makes people less likely to go to a doctor when they are mildly ill and then they get sicker before being seen, which leads to poorer outcomes and higher costs,”
Do you know why there are higher deductibles and co-pays?
Because politicians forced a focus on premiums, because they convinced Americans that premiums were health care costs, because they targeted insurers as scapegoats for high premiums… all while virtually ignoring the underlying causes that increased premiums. Insurers responded by lowering the claims they paid so they could lower premiums … and merrily we roll along.
