Oh goody, a new buzz word “junk fees”

CNBC.com

The article referenced rants about junk fees, but other than a reference to bank overdraft fees does not explain what these billions in “junk fees” are nor if they are actually hidden. Great on hyperbole though.

I wonder if they include charging an extra ten cents per gallon when using a credit card to buy gasoline or charging 3% more at a restaurant to pay with a card? These junk fees are not coming from big banks or giant corporations.

Here’s a real hidden fee to worry about – the growing expense of federal interest payments.

I wonder if the Administration thinks about squeezing a balloon and what happens when you do?

Hey Liz, how about directing some of that “powerfully important work” toward something significant like assuring Social Security and Medicare are sustainable?

  1. “In total, you could end up spending up to $114 in just one month on bank fees! “*

They told us years ago that it costs the bank $7 to process a paper check. Just tried to verify that and the answer is questionable. But do write about thirty or more paper checks a year.

I haven’t paid bank fees for years, that I’m award of. In fact, every month the bank pays interest on both savings and checking balances. Not enough to amount to anything, just enough to mess up my math. But I have direct deposit, maintain minimum balances, and free safe deposit box and cashiers checks for being a veteran. I’m also amazed every year at tax time when I see all the recordkeeping and documentation I get for “free” from the bank.
Elizabeth may be more considering the millions of people who have trouble maintaining a minimum balance, among other things.

“It turns out that over half (53%) of self-reported households cite that not having enough money to keep in a bank account is the main reason for not having an account.”*

These are not your typical Humble Dollar
    audience.

  2. The only thing that Lizzy cares about are headlines! I’d like to know where the members of Congress are going to hide when it all breaks.
