Dumbing down

Here’s something else to be concerned about, the dumbing down of America.

That simply means being rewarded for mediocre achievement, no losers, only winners.

Being qualified for something on paper does not mean capable of doing a job, yet that is often the excuse for square pegs in round holes.

At colleges that includes grade creep, few people work for a real A

A college degree sounds good, but what matters is what you actually learn and how you apply your knowledge.

In schools it means little support for teachers or accountability for student behavior.

I have a few

A school teacher friend tells me he got into trouble teaching history because he discussed slavery. One black child left the room. When he asked where she was going she told him her father told her to leave if slavery was mentioned. The parent called the teacher to complain about the mention of slavery even in the context of a history lesson. The parent later also called the principal who told my friend to just go with the flow.

My granddaughter asked her teacher if she could do her work in the hall because the children were so disruptive in the classroom she couldn’t concentrate.

Anecdotal stuff? Sure, but I have no doubt similar situations are wide-spread.

Our politically correct environment, our failure to take or assess responsibility and accountability are doing us no good.

When everything is made easy, nothing is left worth doing.

  1. Unfortunately this is becoming the norm. Feel sorry for your granddaughter who simply wants to learn. Explains the rise in charter schools and home schooling.

  2. Fortunately, most people don’t have to do too much educated thinking in doing their jobs. With automated equipment and apparatus programmed to do the “thinking” and now AL being integrated into the work place, all is well. And the so called news media is available to feed the gullible what to think. Yes, all is well!
