Food for thought

Memes are popping up on social media showing food prices and blaming it on the Biden Administration. No doubt any current president is fair game, it has always been the case.

BUT THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT A FACT. The price of chocolate is way up, eggs were through the roof, nothing to do with our government.

Where does all this come from, how did it get here?

International events affect any commodity used and traded throughout the world and that is most things in the food chain.

The USA imports about 15% of its food supply and the amount is growing.

The price oil crude oil on the world market affects food prices, the weather around the world affects food prices.

Why keep posting or accepting what is not true?

Americans are doing themselves a great disservice by not thinking globally and believing America can be great with any form of isolationism, including high tariffs and not recognizing the impact the rest of the world has on our everyday lives.

  1. Fact; Biden Administration has directly targeted Big Oil companies (through higher Taxes and more Regulation) and the production of our own crude oil from American sources. Biden continues to make USA dependent on importing oil and energy through his regulations. His EPA mandate is 50% of ALL new cars are Electric (zero emission) and must be sold by 2030. That is 5 1/2 years away!! Yet there is not enough electricity to power electric vehicles today. Dominion Power, in the Mid-Atlantic states (home to Biden) announced on November 10th 2023 that they are building Gas-powered Power Stations to supply the surging demand for electricity up to 2045. Biden announced on April 12th 2024 (THIS month) that Oil & Gas Companies must pay more to drill on Federal Lands. Biden then announced a big reduction of Oil Leases being renewed and several existing Oil leases for the Alaska Arctic fields are CANCELLED.

All of the above contributes to the high price of Crude Oil which directly affects the costs of everything we buy (increasing inflation). This is getting worse, especially this Summer when Oil companies must switch over to a summer blend thus raising Gas prices. The demand for electric vehicles is ‘tanking’ as the Honeymoon is over because Americans find that they cannot charge their cars on road trips. Look at the TESLA stock price YTD on Friday (04-19-2024). The cost of electric charging is more expensive than gas. I rented a Tesla recently in FL. and had great difficulty finding a charging station. At one location I waited over 2 1/2 hours for a recharge.

No Richard, you have your facts and opinions wrong this time!

    1. The US is an exporter of oil. There is plenty of accessible oil even without new leases. The transition to EV will be gradual and likely well beyond and set time frames, as there is much to deal with, but it is coming just as every new method of transportation has. Why would we want to stop any progress?

      1. progress must be thought out more carefully. There are way too many knee-jerk plans from our current administration i.e. inflation reduction act, which have not been thought out well enough and caused unintended consequences that is stubborn, uncontrolled inflation. This is taking a toll on progress. I believe in EV’s but the charging infrastructure build out is exceptionally dysfunctional and slow. ‘Putting the cart before the horse’.

what progress has this administration made in the USA roads, bridges, harbors and transportation that was promised in the National Infrastructure Bill Biden proclaimed on Day 1 in office. The proof is in the BWI bridge collapse.

Ad usual this is Political rhetoric and we as a country are no further ahead!

      2. Few actions by Congress seem to be well thought out. I don’t know for sure, but i drove from NJ to Florida on I 95 and now from NJ to Mass and there is road construction all over the place – what appear major projects

  2. This is so disappointing that you would post this. Just yesterday you stated that you were a conservative and I believed you. Yet this just plays into the hands of the corrupt Biden regime. You know every well that the only way we can defeat Biden, while the economy is so strong, is to attack him on inflation and immigration. We have to keep hitting the inflation thing over and over so people don’t look at their increased wealth, or their record high wages, or the lowest unemployment of our lifetime, or the record energy production, and most of all, not the huge boost to the economy from the immigrant workforce. If you keep doing this, the illegitimate Biden regime is going to actually win this time, unlike 2020, and we won’t be able to pardon President Trump or the Jan 6th hostages. Do you really hate America so much?

      1. I don’t know what NPR is. I googled it and looks like it is part of the Lame Stream Media. I get all my news on Truth Social because it is the only source I can trust. When Trump wins, it is going to go parabolic. You should buy now, ticker DJT. It is the new bitcoin. It is time for us conservatives to put our money where our mouth is and take back this country from the lefty wackos.

      2. I read TS several times a day. Sorry to disappoint, but there is never anything there that comes close to objective, honest news. It’s a bit discouraging when facts seem to be out of favor.

      3. Lefty wackos are like leeches –you can’t get rid of them–they want what you have and will stop at nothing to get it–I say be careful they will make your grand kids sit next to brown and black children–listen to drag queens on library day–censor books by Mark Twain and J.K. Rowling–if white they will be separated from the rest and made to feel guilty and ashamed–let’s not forget the pronouns the loons insist on–and for a field trip they are off to Columbia Univ. to mask up and pretend to hamassholes.

You are right–like always–time to take it back!!

    1. The only thing Old Yeller has going for him is the overwhelming support of the American people. The vast majority of folks see just how positive the economy is especially when they gas up–and the vast amount of energy we are pumping out of the oil fields in spite of the loons on the left hating fossil fuels. I saw the old guy with 40 supporters at his rally in Scranton extolling the virtues of fossil fuels.

That was just a few minutes before he visited the ice cream shop where folks mobbed him and expressed condolences for his uncle eaten by cannibals. Those folks connect with meat eaters and ice cream aficionados. Don’t mistake his shuffle for a health issue as he was reenacting and old junior high move on girl her fancied.

They really don’t care that chocolate bars and eggs are being rationed like toilet paper of old–that wages have failed to keep up with inflation–and that a fetus is having a hard time being terminated. That’s right he is a man of the people and his support is rock solid especially with the orange haired dictator behind the dock in the big apple.

  3. Isolationism and the price of eggs? I don’t see a connection since eggs are domestically produced by our very own hens. Bird flu knocked them over in the past few years. I’m guessing a growing population has something to do with it also.
Chocolate is imported but the supply is fickle, weather conditions apply as does worldwide demand. Again, isolationism has nothing to do with it. You are right that the Pres has little to do with those 2 things. The price of oil? Biden came into office with guns blazing at oil production in the US. So yeah, he’s fair game on that front. Isolationism isn’t a factor there either because we must deal with the world market for oil while fiddling with windmills and figuring where the most acreage is available to put all the solar panels.
