Where do you want to live in retirement?

The answer is as varied as the number of retirees.

Is it:

Or maybe you have your eye on The Villages in Florida.

It’s not for me, but thousand like that lifestyle.

A small section of The Villages. Hope for friendly neighbors.

Whatever your choice, don’t wait until you retire to think about and plan your move – and think long term.

  1. The wife and I moved to a smaller one level home where I thought we would stay when I was 59. However, some new grandkids popped up and we moved again 10 years later to be closer to them, again choosing a one level open floor plan. We’ve managed nicely here for the past 9 years. I haven’t found it be a burden at all so far. I like being on my own so to speak. If we need help with repairs, tree trimming or removal, window washing, or anything else I can get competent help when needed. The only drawback I can see for the future is if one of us should need the use of a wheelchair. That may be problematic inside due to some doorways, I don’t know but I will figure it out.
The idea of heading to a CCRC in my 60s was unthinkable at the time and I passed on an over 55 community when we last moved because the lots were small and the HOA regs seemed a little much for me.
