A scooter maker is under investigation because its ads supposedly target people who don’t need scooters costing Medicare hundreds of millions of dollars.
Let’s think about this, people don’t need the scooter, but Medicare pays anyway? What’s wrong with this picture? What’s wrong is that Medicare does next to no scrutiny of the claims it pays which by the way is one of the reasons it has its much praised low administrative cost. Just because a service or item is an eligible expense does not mean it is necessary in all cases or that there should not be concurrent review for medical necessity.
In addition, this lack of scrutiny also contributes to the fraud and waste affecting Medicare and has for many years before Obamacare began taking credit for saving money by attacking fraud and waste.
