Soda Tax

By adding pennies to the cost of a soda we can solve the obesity problem.

So says an ad for a new soda tax in New York. The tax is a penny per ounce and is expected to raise one billion dollars.

That closing line follows the full ad relating the fact there is 11,000,000 dangerously overweight people in New York and explaining the diseases ahead for obese children.

Fighting obesity; good idea. Expecting a twelve penny increase in the cost of a Coke to conduct the fight; a joke.

New York may need the billion dollars, but just call it a tax, a very regressive tax, but a tax nevertheless.
