Why is it necessary to mislead to sell something, even an idea

2013

There are wide differences of opinion in this Country, too wide I think. Nevertheless, there is nothing wrong with different ideas and different solutions to problems. If you are passionate about something support your position with facts, sell your idea with facts, not incomplete, misleading information, twisted facts, outright lies or innuendo. The right and left are both guilty of these tactics and ferreting out the truth can be exhausting.

Take a look at the following. It was included in an e-mail I received from National Review. What you see is an advertisement. If you click on their link, this is what you see.

But here is the point, the ad makes it appear as if the Obama administration is responsible for low COLAs under Social Security. In addition, no one is going to reduce Social Security payments and certainly nothing is going to happen soon, even the changes that should happen.

The sad part is that many Americans, in this case those obsessively opposed to Obama, believe this garbage. The COLA formula is set by law and reflects inflation as measured by the CPI for urban wage earners. Look under the Social Security category of this blog and you can find the exact way the calculation is made. I suppose you could place blame on the Obama administration for low inflation, but then wouldn’t you have like high inflation?
