Less rhetoric, fewer scapegoats, more dignity

I am not sufficiently articulate to express this the way I would like, so let me say it this way.  Something stinks in Washington.  Perhaps something a bit more specific is in order.

You are either with me or you are dumb (or a Republican)

This President and his zombies in Congress have an annoying way of attacking people who do not agree with them that goes beyond political disagreement.  The idea seems to be if you can create a good scapegoat, the masses will rally around you.  I think that is an insult to us who comprise the masses.

Creating scapegoats is dangerous; playing politics, the way it is now being played, is non-productive and demeaning to all of us.

The first big target was Wall Street, then insurance companies, CEOs, town hall meeting attendees, Tea Party goers, then CEOs again as they announced compliance with SEC rules that did not make health insurance reform look good, somewhere in there was the Supreme Court and most recently the State of Arizona.  I wonder how the CMS Chief Actuary and the CBO Director have escaped the vendetta as they express misgivings about the cost of health care reform and the state of the federal budget and deficit.

I want my President to act presidential, with dignity, with tact, with leadership and to lead us where the majority of Americans want to go, not where the Congressional majority for the moment wants us to go. I want someone with a long-term vision of what is best for this and future generations.  That generally means the middle of the road with fiscal responsibility. We have neither now.  Barack Obama received just over 52% of the popular vote in 2008, which hardly seems like a mandate to change the direction of the United States or the tone of government or the Presidency.  I wonder how many of the people who voted for change in 2008, realized what kind of change that would be.

Perhaps it is a generational thing, perhaps the way the President acts is merely indicative of his spoiled generation, or perhaps he is frustrated because he cannot wear his baseball cap backward at a State Dinner.

I know what I want, I want the truth from politicians, and I want them to work for all of America and not focus primarily on the next election.  I also want government to stop creating more problems than it solves and yes, that includes the housing crisis, much of our health care problems that are still unresolved and a lot more.  Most of all, I do not want to see the United States become a second tier nation beholding to other nations while taxing its citizens into mediocrity.

The 52% are likely to get their wish before I get mine. What do I know; I am just a sixty-six year old, white, “wealthy” male who clearly needs more experience in the way things are supposed to work.
