President Barack Obama blasted congressional Republicans Friday for failing to craft a workable response to the border crisis before leaving Washington for their summer recess, setting the stage for executive actions to address the surge in child migrants from Central America. Politico 8-2-14
“House Republicans as we speak are trying to pass the most extreme and unworkable version of a bill that they already know is going nowhere, that can’t pass the Senate,” Obama said in a hastily announced afternoon appearance in the White House press briefing room.
“There not even trying to to solve the problem,” the president said. “This is a message bill….just so they can check a box before leaving town tomorrow.”
Let’s assume the President has a valid point. This kind of rhetoric is not leadership or helpful. It is tantamount to an employer standing in front of union members telling them their leaders are a bunch of incompetent boobs because they don’t see things the way the company does while at the same time trying to resolve a serious labor conflict.
This is the kind of short-sighted, arrogant behavior that will be the legacy of this President … even if he has a valid point. Oh yeah, Happy Birthday.

What kind of rhetoric would you use to describe this laughable (if it weren’t so tragic) situation, Mr. Quinn? How about a little Harry Trumanesque? POTUS to congressional Republicans, “If you will stop telling lies about me, I will stop telling the truth about you”

I wouldn’t use rhetoric at all, I’d keep my mouth shut and work behind the scenes to get problems solved and I would not be so fixated on my ideology, but on a level of compromise that would actually get something accomplished for the long term benefit of all Americans and I would not keep trying to pit one class of Americans against another or try to convince people their problems are all caused by someone else.
And don’t say he can’t do that because of Republican behavior. Treaties have been negotiated with people a lot worse than Republicans and union contracts have been resolved with arrogant self-serving people on both sides.
The fact is whether you support his ideology or not, this President is incompetent as a leader. The numbers show it, the reaction of world leaders shows it, many Democrats know it, but fear the racists card and maybe everyone will know it in November after the elections if Americans elect more far right Republicans out of frustration; something we don’t need either.

The republicans opposition to everything obama does is just a guise for the right wing’s entrenched racism.

That’s a bit of a stretch as it’s more playing politics, but that still has nothing to do with the President of the US acting like the President.
