I maintain that the most important factor in closing the income gap is the individual. Education is necessary of course, if for nothing else than to get your foot in the door. However, a few years after graduation that matters little. What matters for your second and subsequent jobs is your track record.
Addressing so-called inequality should focus on raising the middle-class, something that has been lost in the populist 1% rhetoric of the last six years. That task, in my opinion, requires more effort by the individual even as the government focuses on removing unfair barriers that may exist and providing temporary assistance when needed.
