Does it matter who is running things?

Here we are in 2015. Are we better off than we were in 2008? Eh!

It seems to me we are still talking about the struggling middle class, the poor and the mediocre economy, pockets of high unemployment, the problems of Social Security, an onerous tax code and America’s shrinking leadership role in the world. Our sacrifices in the Middle East may have achieved nothing. Race relations seem to have deteriorated.

Well, health insurance has been expanded, but the real cost has yet to be determined.

Look at the above chart and ask yourself; does it matter who is in charge? For twenty-six years Democrats controlled Congress, for forty years Democrats controlled the House of Representatives. For twelve years Republicans controlled the House. For the last eight years Democrats controlled the Senate.

What does it all mean? I suggest that the most important factor to achieve real progress is leadership in the Senate, the House and the White House. Leadership more focused on accomplishment of national goals and solving national problems rather than on winning elections and party politcal power. It’s been a long time since we have had that kind of leadership.

  1. Based upon what I see in the chart provided, I will stick my neck out here to open a discussion on this matter and say that since 1933 the majority of seats in both houses were filled with individuals seeking to “spread the wealth” to hopefully make life better for everyone. However, the real result is the masses have become reliant upon government to “take care of them and their families” resulting in a society that looks for more hand-outs rather than educating and helping to find ways to improve productivity in the work force. Notice I did not mention the predominant political affiliations. Government is supposed to lead and support industry not create government jobs or laws that infringe upon our rights.

    1. And yet, nothing seems to be getting better. It seems we may want to rethink how we provide assistance to those really in need.
