More Than 40% of Student Borrowers Arenāt Making Payments- Wall Street Journal April 7, 2016
KristoĀpher Mathews, 38 years old, is in deĀferĀment on about $11,900 in federal student loans. DurĀing the reĀcesĀsion he earned a cerĀtificate at a MiĀchigan-based for-profit college that teaches media arts, but he wasnāt able to find the well-payĀing job in raĀdio that he hoped for.
Mr. MathĀews now works as a loĀgisĀtiĀcal anĀaĀlyst for an auto comĀpany, makĀing $46,000 a year. He says he deĀvotes his inĀcome to carĀing for his famĀilyāhe and his fiĀancĆ©e have three chilĀdrenāand payĀing off two credit cards and a car loan. āWith all the other neĀcesĀsiĀties in life I just donāt haveā funds to pay stuĀdent debt, he said.
Once his deĀferĀment exĀpires, he isnāt sure if he will feel obliged to pay down his loan. āThey promised me everything,ā he said of his for-profit colĀlege. āAnd I honestly have nothĀing to show for it exĀcept a piece of paĀper that doesnāt really do me any good.ā

His story is exactly why I say make him pay. I didn’t get a useless degree. It is only $12K and I bet it is less then the cost of his car. WHY SHOULD I FOOT HIS LOAN BILL.
