TRUMP: “At the suggestion of Elon Musk — I will create a Government efficiency Commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms. Elon.. has agreed to head that task force”
Don’t hold great expectations for this red herring because any possible savings are insignificant.
In 2023, the federal government spent $658 billion on net interest costs on the national debt. Nothing to do about that.

Which area of spending would you seek to save the big bucks? The largest spending is not discretionary.

Reduce by 1% spending for each government agency and let’s see what we have.

Unless you include Medicare, Social Security and defense, the 1% would be insignificant. For example cutting SS non benefit admin costs equals only $72 million. By comparison we spend over $2 billion a day in interest costs.

The fact that government spending is a runaway train doesn’t mean you couldn’t throw some daylight on the most egregious spending. I know, what is egregious to me could be normal to you but still it could be discussed in a round table. The general public has no interest in it but rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic would at least irritate the Pols.
