First we see this repeated over and over on social media.

And then Meta analysis the comments to the meme and we get this.

“Overwhelming support” such stupidity at a time of record debt and deficits with more to come?
What the heck is wrong with people?
Nobody lives on a fixed income unless they don’t qualify for Social Security.
Retired people? At any age?

Yes, THEY have gone crazy. Taxes are the cost for maintaining where I live; I do not resent paying taxes. I don’t even resent making quarterly tax payments to allow for a Roth conversion sometime this year. I consider myself as being extremely blessed to be in a position to make Roth Conversions. Of course we have gone crazy when NYC could well have have a communist mayor promising all kinds of free services even city run food stores. From Whole Foods to ” no foods.”
When some folks applaud millions crossing the border illegally and others tell us the border was closed the ignorant folks bought that.
A year ago last night what we all knew, what most of us were aware of and had been for years , that our emperor wore Depends. That debate showed just how bad it was. The ignorant ones told us he was under the weather.
Remember the ignorant ones bought the Hunter Biden laptop story. Folks like Quinn really thought you’d have insurance at $2,500 and select your doctor.
So Quinn is 100% right but the fools who want tax free benefits from Social Security and property taxes are no more ignorant than those who fell for the above lies.
There’s no pill for stupid. Just listen to Trump and the exaggerations and lies we get are just as egregious.

I don’t read the social media circuit so I can’t say we are going crazy. None of what I read advocates tax freedom at 65 or older people. The fact that Trump is only pushing for no tax on Social Security means that total tax freedom for old timers is not mainstream. Even no tax on Social Security is not going to fly. There are too many well heeled old timers to give them that kind of break. No, we are not going crazy.

There are three tax issues all over Social media and widely supported. This has been going on for a year or so.
None of it will happen, but the attitude displayed is disturbing in the support from ignorant people the receive.
No property taxes for anyone retired
No tax on Social Security
No taxes at all on people 65+

I was surprised that the no tax on Social Security gained as much traction as it did since anyone living on Social Security exclusively is probably already tax free. If the people pushing the senior tax exemption would bother to look, they would find a lot of wealth and income. That’s why I say we as a whole aren’t going mad but maybe an ignorant subset believes all seniors are poor as church mice and shouldn’t be bothered with taxes.

That perception is certainly wide spread. Americans have been trained to dislike any taxes while other societies get a net benefit from higher taxes.

Oh really, ” a net benefit ” . According to a recent CATO study a family of 4 in the EU pays over $20,000 more in taxes than the same U.S. family. Of course that disincentizes work. Vacation time for EU countries is wild.
WSJ article this week tells us that in LA hotel workers are paid a mandated $30 per hour. No wonder your illegal friends swim to our shores.
