Is it really all about money?

The Trump administration is doing more harm than people realize and in some cases it will be felt long after the MAGA cult leader and his porky pies are gone.

“Dr. Kamila Naxerova is trying to understand how cancer spreads in the body. Dr. Rachael Sirianni is trying to find new ways to deliver drugs for childhood brain cancer. Dr. David Ho is trying to make breakthroughs in H.I.V. research.

These researchers and so many others worked to ensure that Americans had access to the best medical treatments available and that they had first access to those treatments. That is, they worked until the Trump administration gutted funding to the National Institutes of Health and froze grants to universities across the country.

You can put a dollar amount on how much has been saved, but the cost of what has been lost is incalculable.

“It’s people who will get cancer in 10, 20 or 30 years who will really pay the price for these cuts,” Dr. Naxerova said.”

The MAGA ideology puts smaller government and lower taxes above all else. It is deeply flawed in a society of 340 million souls.

Addressing fraud, waste and inefficiency, actually paying for what we need is fine and necessary, but applying a chainsaw to vital government functions and services in the name of an extreme ideology is not.

would agree with you–in my opinion best use of money is medical research and NIH hands out boatloads of money for this–big mistake, as you point out, with long term implications.

one of the reasons this has happened is how politicized the grants became under the previous folks–DEI was imbedded in so many federal grants it would make your head swim–the WSJ had op-ed pieces on a frequent basis by folks who pointed out what needed doing before grants were issued–just pure lunacy.

Does this justify cuts? NO!! Just evaluate the need, the purpose, the benefit to people and award the money or not. We go from lunacy to just slicing and dicing without long-term thinking.
