Corruption 👁️👁️

Something is wrong with our government leaders, the people who were supposed to replace the bureaucrats we were told were harming us.

While not ever possible to fully achieve, when did we stop expecting, let alone demanding integrity, honesty, dedication to duty, decency, morality from the people who we hire to lead us?

This is not the first time our leaders have failed us and it won’t be the last, but at this point the extent of corruption is unique in our lifetime.

It seems to be a toxic mix of self-serving and blind obedience to the leader even while requiring sacrificing one’s integrity.

There’s a tendency to talk of Noem, Patel and their perk-minded compatriots as grifters. The appellation certainly fits. It’s tempting to focus on the inadequate experience and kooky beliefs of flamboyant strivers — from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the health secretary, to Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence — whom Trump has elevated to the top tiers of government.

But that obscures and gives short shrift to their fundamental sloppiness, selfishness, disregard for proper procedure, evasion of accountability. They simply don’t do their jobs — or at least don’t do them earnestly, maturely or competently.

Opinion on the unprofessional behavior of Trump appointees

👁️👁️Corruption generally means abuse of power or position for personal gain. The word can also mean moral decay or dishonesty in institutions or systems, not just illegal acts.

    Homeland Security: Alejandro Mayorkas

    Transportation: Pete Buttigieg

Housing & Urban Development: Marcia Fudge

    Energy: Jennifer Granholm

    All losers.

    Trump 1 Administration:

    Secretary of State Rex Tillerson

    Attorney General Jeff Sessions

    Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue

    Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao

You can find less than competent people in over their heads in every recent administration.

And, in every administration, there are individuals who leverage and profit from their roles.

And it isn’t limited to federal goverment officials, either. See Governors: Walz and Newsome (pending fraud claims), Blagojevich, Ryan, Walker, Kerner, Edwards, Moore, Barron, Rowland, McDonnell, Siegelman, Blanton, Mecham, and others long ago.

The problem is simply that the federal and state governments are way the hell too big. Eisenhower, for example, only had 10 cabinet members. Trump has 21 (maybe more, perhaps I miscounted).

Eisenhower’s 1960 budget revenue was < $80 Billion and he ran a surplus. Today, the idiot ass Trump’s budget, for fiscal year 2026, is projected to have a $1.9 trillion deficit, with revenues estimated at $5.6 trillion and outlays (spending) reaching $7.4 trillion!

And, without change, the projection for the next 30 years is that our debt will increase to exceed 175% of GDP, something greater than $167 Trillion!

    Stop, stop I say!

  2. I don’t follow everyone in a cabinet position but I’ve seen a few minutes here and there and that was enough for me to think Bondi and Noem were/are out of their league. The only other appointee I have read about, RFL Jr, seems serious in his role and I agree with a lot of what he’s doing. I wouldn’t call them grifters or unserious people but I wouldn’t call them the best and the brightest either. Some are just in over their heads.
