Most major religious traditions emphasize things like:
- Humility and rejecting pride/vanity
- Honesty and truthfulness
- Compassion toward the poor, sick, and marginalized
- Marital fidelity and sexual restraint
- Forgiveness and not holding grudges
- Generosity and care for immigrants/strangers (“welcome the stranger” appears in Christian, Jewish, and Islamic texts alike)
- Humility toward wealth and power
I would think these behaviors would be especially important in our leaders. That has not always been the case throughout history as we know, but failing in all of them simultaneously is a bit unusual.
A malignant narcissist simply can’t help themselves as we see demonstrated every day.

Dealing with mental/psychological issues is not always within easy control. Not making excuses, but it seems to be the case with narcissism.

I disagree with the caption “simply can’t help themselves,” though likely meant facetiously. I may be naive but I believe that everyone can help themselves if they have a reason for wanting to be better, such as wanting better personal relationships, the approval of a loved or admired person or even a tiny grain of altruism. Unfortunately, some people find themselves mentored or parented by the truly evil, which I believe exists. Failing to recognize evil and removing oneself from its influence creates the person who chooses not to be better, more humble and caring about others. A classic struggle that has been played out since Cain and Abel.
