It was true in the 1930s and it’s still true in the 2020s

It appears critical thinking and cognitive abilities have not advanced at all.

How easily humans are manipulated and fall victim to their own prejudices and bias and reinforcement of what they want to believe regardless of facts.

And just like the 1930s a master of lies and propaganda has practiced his skill with success.

Joesph Goebbels maintained that propaganda must target the broadest audience possible by keeping messages simple and repeating them constantly.

In his words: “The rank and file are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious.”

Publicly, Goebbels insisted that effective propaganda must base itself on facts whenever possible, arguing that outright fabrication could be dangerous if exposed. However, his operational rule was that facts should be selectively framed, distorted, or completely fabricated to serve the political goal.

Goebbels believed the best propaganda was invisible—where the subject does not realize they are being manipulated.

In a 1933 speech to radio directors: “The best propaganda is that which, as it were, works invisibly, penetrates the whole of life without the public being even aware of the in-working of the propaganda.”
