For the people

While reading the paper a quote from Rep Nancy Pelosi caught my eye.

It says, “Democrats are for the people’s interest, the Republicans are for the special interests.”

Truth be told both Democrats and Republicans seem to be for their own interests, but that aside the concept of  “for the people’s interest” is interesting. To me the  interests of all the people, not certain groups based on their voting patterns or the type of shirt they wear to work, or even their income for that matter, is more important.

The most important however is the people’s interests that go beyond 2010. The next generation and the next after that will live with the short cited, fiscally irresponsible decisions being made today in the ” peoples interest.”  Making the American people more and more dependent on government is not in their interest. Governments cannot deliver on their generous promises as we are seeing in many states and countries around the world.

Increasing government employment and not acting to truly stimulate economic growth in the private sector is not in the people’s interest, rather it sets the stage for lower productivity and stagnation in the economy.

The people’s interest is best served by a strong dynamic economy, taxes as low as possible and knowing that their own initiative creates it’s rewards and personal security.
