The turbines are “majestic and beautiful.”

So says the developer of Cape Wind, a project to build a wind farm over 25 square miles in Nantucket Sound. The area is surrounded by Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island. The electricity will cost twice as much as current rates, but since it makes up only a small portion of total generation, it will only add a little more than 2% to electric bills from the utilities in the New England grid forced to buy the output of the turbines…whoopee!!
Supporters of the project for years used to tell people all the electricity would go to the Cape and save them money.
Here is a picture I took of some of the “majestic and beautiful” turbines off the coast of England. I’m kind of thinking that unmarred sunset is majestic and beautiful.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As long as someone else is paying for the installation and upkeep, these turbines will appeal to those who have no idea what the costs and maintenance fees are on these.
Salt water will destroy most mechanical objects.
Then you have to be concerned about the costs of studies resulting from those who will be concerned about the change in tides affecting crabs and other crustations.
I challenge you to have a smaller version placed in your back yard and see the flack that gets generated.

You’re right, between wind and solar our quest for “clean” energy is consuming land and sea, adding tremendously to cost and creating visual pollution.
