Birth control at any age… eleven year olds can now get the pill without prescription

2013

A federal judge today 4-5-13 ruled that the morning after contraceptive pill (Plan B) must be available to girls of any age. Before this ruling the Department of HHS required a prescription for girls under age 17, and I do mean girls.

The Judge ordered that the Plan B pill be available to young girls within 30 days. Pregnant? No problem!

Here is what the judge said:

“The invocation of the adverse effect of Plan B on 11-year-olds is an excuse to deprive the overwhelming majority of women of their right to obtain contraceptives without unjustified and burdensome restrictions,”

Are the overwhelming majority of “women” 11 years old?

I wonder if they will be selling Plan B in Toys R Us?

There are many people in this nation who are totally opposed to any abortions or birth control for for any woman for any reason whatsoever. These people support making it unlawful for any pregnant woman to undergo an abortion for any reason whatsoever. Women whose pregnancies result from rape or incest are not excempted in their proposed world. They never state what the penalty will be for women who break their proposed new laws. They will never answer a question such as a pregnant woman running a marathon and suffering a miscarraige as a result of that exertion. Is that woman guilty of involuntary manslaughter?
Most of these same people oppose welfare, any other form of public assistance and decry Obama as a “food stamp President”.
So they are declaring that all of these largely poverty-stricken, minority pregnant women are required by law to give birth to these unwanted babies. However, we will not give them welfare payments to feed and care for their unwanted children. They cannot work because the Republicans have also abolished day-care and Head Start programs.
Republicans will pass laws to force these women to give birth against their wishes and then force them to watch their newborn babies starve to death.
It’s a right-wing Republican trap to destroy Democratic voters: “the least among us” will get no birth control, no planned parenthood, no abortions, no sex education, no food stamps, no welfare assistance and therefore, no jobs – so they are now part of Romney’s lazy 47% moochers – the right-wing Republicans say they want to “get government out of our private lives”, but they insist on intervening in the most personal lives of women – from a recent T-shirt that said it all: “If I wanted the government in my womb, I woud F**k a senator”

    1. What has any of that to do with giving prescription free pills to eleven and twelve year old girls? Even the Administration opposed doing that.

      1. Let’s not forget that this ruling also applies to 16 year old girls who are significantly more likely to be aware of and use a plan B pill. Talking about 11 year old girls using this medication is speculative, inflammatory and ignores the context of the rest of the quote.

      2. And sixteen year old girls should not be having casual sex in any case. All we seem to do is lower the common denominator for all our standards. Hey let’s just rationalize. It’s better not to get pregnant so everything is just fine.

    2. So yes in an ideal world 16 year old girls (and boys) should not be having casual sex, but guess what we don’t live in an ideal world and some of them do. And apparently you would view access to a plan B pill as a greater evil than teen pregnancy.
