What health plans look like in the Affordable Care Act exchanges

2013

I was unable to see the health plans offered in my own state because you must open a marketplace account to do so. However, Maine make the information widely available to anyone. Here is a summary of the plans in Maine.

Note the deductibles, the co-insurance levels and the different levels of physician access (guided access). This is what it takes to make premiums “affordable.” Whether the total health care bills for the year are affordable is quite a different matter … you get what you pay for.

  1. I just spent 15 minutes looking up what “plan factors” are and how to apply them within the context of the chart. I am no closer to an answer. Who is going to explain these intricacies?

    1. I suspect nobody will explain. The simple answer is the silver plan is 1.0 and you go up or down from there in value either to gold or bronze. However, as you see from the chart, that does not hold 100% true for all sliver plans which I suspect is because of slight variables in the benefits, like the inclusion of an HSA.
