DOL Grants to foreign governments

2013

Who isn’t in favor of eliminating abusive child labor? But is it up to the United States to police and finance the world? Grants such as described below are routine and not only for this issue. Is this a prudent expenditure for a country running a high deficit; country with plenty of problems at home we constantly hear about? Is the US the cause of this child labor?

Frankly I have mixed feelings, what is your view on such spending?

  1. I see no grants to foreign government here. Instead, I see grants to labor cronies. Where can I sign up for $5MM, say, to reduce child labor here in Ohio? Seems that the current Administration has done very well thank you in reducing labor by individuals under the age of 25, so, it would be easy money for you and me.

  2. A country with high deficit spending, borrowing 40% of what it spends and then giving grants to foreign countries for whatever altruistic reason is like a person in the checkout line at the supermarket, paying for groceries with food stamps and borrowed funds and then dropping money into the march of dimes container on the way out the door. It’s a laudable thought but what is the logic? If you can’t fund your own needs, how can you give money away?
