Creating jobs

I received an e-mail from the White House today. Here is what it said in part:

The President will use every tool he can to create new jobs and opportunities for the middle class. He will be looking for areas of bipartisan cooperation, but he won’t be waiting on Congress to act. Instead, the President will use his executive authority, both his pen and his phone, to work with anyone to get things done — whether they be leaders in business, education, Congress, states, or local communities who want to get things done on behalf of the American people.

One has to wonder, what has he been doing since January 2009. What exactly has he been waiting on to act? And no, sitting in traffic at the GWB is not an excuse.

  1. Mr. Quinn – ignoring the fact that John cannot spell “campaigning”, if you, sir, are unaware of five years of Republican obstructionism thwarting every new jobs bill that POTUS has proposed, you should not be managing a blog – the Republicans have one objective:
    1) Obstruct any attempt to improve our economy so they can campaign against the economy in the 2014 mid-term elections – never mind that POTUS has created 48 consecutive months of private sector jobs growth in spite of their rampant obstructionism!
Now I know that you are not that dense, but why won’t you tell it like it is?
If John’s “campaigning” was a play on words, POTUS is not running for office and is not campaigning. He is not running for office. He is taking his appeal to help American citizens who are not in the top 1% directly to the people because the House Republicans are dedicated to our nation’s economic failure until they can win an election.
Now that “moderate” Christie has “shit in his mess kit”, the right wing has only plagiarist, Rand Paul, 1/2 Cuban, 1/2 Canadian and completely crazy Ted Cruz, dim witted Marco Rubio and old and tired Jeb Bush. What are they to do? I guess that I left out Paul Ryan who is a consummate liar with a nose that is only larger his ego and a broken calculator.
The Republicans are imploding and will lose both the House and Senate in 2014 because they are totally out of touch with the new America. Then and only then will we see the resurgence of a once great American nation! No wars, full employment, badly needed infra structure repair, universal healthcare, immigration reform, A nation revitalized and healed for Hillary to nurture and care for until 2024.

    1. Oh my Wilson you are a dreamer aren’t you? You seem to forget the Democrats controlled Congress for several years in a row and we didn’t achieve nirvana as you see it. As far as overcoming Republican opposition goes, that’s the job of a leader, to solve problems, compromise, negotiate, etc. there is no true leader in our White House these days whether you agree with his ideology or not. Wilson, you might be happier living in France their socialist view of things may be more compatible with your views.

PS what happened to all those shovel ready jobs that four years ago were supposed to address both the infrastructure and employment?

No wars? Don’t we all wish for that. Sadly human history shows that will never happen. And given the nuts all around the world experience shows to prevent war to the extent possible, one must be the most prepared for it. It’s too bad we must waste money that way, but that is the nature of the world.

      1. It took me a while to stop laughing at your response. Did you really say that there would not be 234 House Republicans and 45 Senate Republicans most of whom are dedicating their every waking moments to destroying the Obama administration, his legacy and our nation’s economy; if President Obama were a better leader? If I did not misunderstand you, that is a completely ludicrous thing to write.
As for moving to France – I think that you and I are about the same age and we are probably both benefiting from Social Security and Medicare. And, as such, we are among Paul Ryan’s despised “takers”. If ever it should happen (God forbid), that Republicans regain control of Congress and the presidency; you can kiss your Social Security and your Medicare benefits (that you paid for) good bye. No one will hire two old men for anything better than Wal-Mart greeters so let’s move to Canada rather than France. That move would be less expensive and, If you’re partial to French cuisine, we’ll move to Quebec.
Those shovel ready jobs were never created because Republicans refused to support those measures and you know that.
The Republican-created war in Iraq was undertaken on totally false pretenses because George Bush senior wanted junior to correct the mistake that he thought he made by not invading Iraq after Kuwait. Today, Iraqis are killing each other at record levels and nothing was accomplished after that massive expenditure of American lives American blood and American treasure. That was not defense, that was a foreign invasion that killed the only guy that knew how to govern Iraqis because “daddy George” didn’t like him.
The Republican-created war in Afghanistan was undertaken ostensibly to capture Osama bin Laden who was actually hiding in Pakistan. After 13 years of wasting more American lives, American blood and American treasure, nothing has been accomplished. We have been propping up a corrupt regime that is operating an opium factory for 13 years while our young people fight and die for nothing. As soon as we leave, the Taliban will overrun that country and turn it into a another bloodbath.
Congressional Republicans are demanding “offsets” before they will support long-term unemployment insurance for our suffering unemployed, but they didn’t ask for “offsets” to fund those two wars that they created.
President Obama convinced Putin to clean out the chemical weapons in Syria and we didn’t, therefore, attempt to bomb them back to the stone ages. What a concept. The weapons that we would have launched are manufactured in Texas (what a coincidence)! Could it be that George and George knew that?
Now President Obama is attempting to dissuade Iran from developing nuclear weapons via diplomacy without expending precious United States treasury and lives to kill more Muslims and still defending our nation and our allies. What a concept.
This president is proving that war is not inevitable.
Our nation has progressed far beyond the ideology of the Republicans and they don’t even realize it to this day.

    1. So, Mr. Quinn, you are still avowing that a “real leader” could overcome 279 right-wing ideologues in Congress who are focused on destroying his administration and tanking our nation’s economy in order to get themselves re-elected in 2014 above all else? That is wholesale nonsense!

      1. Furthermore, this president is preserving your Social Security benefits, your Medicare benefits, Medicaid for the less fortunate among us, championing Affordable Healthcare for all Americans, unemployment insurance for those still suffering from the Republican-created recession, veterans’ benefits for those that were wounded and disabled in two useless Republican wars. You fret about how we can, as a nation, fund these programs into the future. Let’s start with subsidies to big oil companies, the 25% of American companies that pay no income taxes and the many corporations who are hiding their profits in offshore banks to avoid income taxes. These same corporations are funding the political campaigns of your Republican heroes and their greed is appalling!
Are you aware to the TPP? Do you realize that this trade partnership is “NAFTA ON STEROIDS”? – Do you realize that this trade agreement will plunge even more Americans into poverty? Do you realize that the largest corporations in this nation are planning to “fast track” this agreement through congress?
I really care about our nation after I am gone. Perhaps you are akin to Romney and Ryan, i.e. “I’ve got mine and you poor bastards are on your own”.

      2. Actually I care most about the type of country that will be left for my children and grandchildren.

By the way, neither you or I paid for our Social Security and now only a small portion of our Medicare.

      3. If you really do care about your children and your grandchildren, you must realize that Republican right wing corporate greed will leave them all destitute and homeless if they are ever elected to office again.
I worked hard. I made a lot of money. I paid in a lot of money to Social Security and Medicare. I don’t give a damn about government accounting regarding who paid for who’s benefits.

      4. Say Wilson, perhaps moving to France wasn’t such a good idea.

“François Hollande is making progress. On Tuesday, the French President proposed a €30 billion payroll-tax cut—amounting to 5.4% of employers’ average wage cost—as a way to revive France’s economic fortunes. “If a country does not produce wealth, what is there to redistribute at the end?” he asked at his press conference.”

      5. Most European nations have been trying to recover their economies with the same kind of austerity programs espoused by the Republicans in this country. It has been failing miserably, but Republicans don’t seem to realize these facts. They continue their attempts to push our nation down the same dead-end road.
