The irresponsible Elizabeth Warren

2014

Read this from Politico:

WARREN: GENDER DISPARITIES CONTRIBUTED TO MOTHER’S DEATH – Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Thursday her mother died in a hospital room because of coronary disease that doctors failed to detect “because she was a woman.” Speaking at a conference on women’s health disparities in Boston hosted by Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Democrat said research often fails to consider how disease and treatment impact men and women differently. Her mother, she said, had been in the hospital for a surgery that went well. But before her release, she suddenly complained of gas pain and “fell back dead,” Warren said. “No one had ever considered the possibility that she had coronary disease. I’ve always assumed that’s because she was a woman.” Warren said researchers should ensure that women are proportionally represented in their studies, that studies measure different health impacts on men and women, and that researchers doing animal testing report on the gender of the animals they use.

What do you think, does she have a chip on her shoulder? Note her declarative statements in the beginning and then her assumption at the end. While it’s true most heart research has been on men while women have nearly equal incidence of the disease, that imbalance is changing.

Clearly I know as much as you do about Senator Warren’s mother, but based on experience I find it hard to believe that in the course of pre-surgery screening and tests that heart disease or at least a high risk of disease was not detected, not to mention during ongoing care an older women typical receives. Facing surgery “No one had ever considered the possibility that she had coronary disease?” I don’t find that credible. In fact, it sounds like the basis for a malpractice claim.

Perhaps the tests were done, perhaps like a healthy athlete who suddenly falls back dead, there were no detectible signs. I have no idea, but what is clear is the lack of credibility this Senator has when furthering her me the victim agenda.

  1. I agree pre-op testing and monitoring is very normal today which should have detected a problem. Sounds like she wants to make her case for malpractice or wants this incident included in the “war on women”. Isn’t Mass. healthcare the precurser for Obama’s “signature” health care reform/debacal? Hmmmm.
