The left side of the campaign contribution story

2014

The Democrats and liberal organizations are beside themselves over the SCOTUS decision on contributions saying it will encourage corruption. We should worry about corruption, but that certainly isn’t a unique purview of the right.

Democrats take their share of money from groups seeking to limit things that directly impact our costs and more. Lawyers and law firms are top contributors to Democrats with one of their goals to inhibit malpractice reform.

Here are recent examples of top recipients of law firm contributions (Source: Open Secrets). Is that a D I see next to their state?

  1. Inhibiting malpractice reform is a far cry from eliminating the minimum wage, vouchering Medicare, eliminating SNAP, Medicaid, Meals on Wheels, long term unemployment benefits, et al. Not to mention poisoning the environment, reducing income taxes for the 1%, taxing the middle class more, deregulating the big banks that plunged us into a recession, advocating war to enrich the military industrial complex, federally subsidizing big oil, et al.

    1. Oh my, there is no hope for you is there. Do you seriously think all that is going to happen? And by the way, the root cause of the recession was liberal policies aimed at home ownership for those who could not afford it. Yes, banks were enablers and took advantage, but without policies pushing it all the subprime loans would not have been the problem they were. You can thank Barney Frank and Andrew Cuomo for much of that. Did you read the Koch editorial in the WSJ today?

      1. I seriously think that Conservatives DO want all that to happen. Have you read Paul Ryan’s budget? Do I seriously think that it will happen? Not while Democrats are dedicated to saving democracy from plutocracy.
Read the news. Hardly a day goes by without the announcement of another big bank paying billions in fines for the illegal acts that they committed that plunged our economy into recession. They’ve got plenty of money to pay those fines (and, in some cases, the fines are tax deductible!). We need to start putting the felons in prison. That will make them sit up and take notice. The banks are paying the fines because they are guilty which rebuts your comments. Barney Frank and Andrew Cuomo were not indicted and did not pay any fines, as far as I know.
Yes, I read the tripe that one of the Koch brothers hired someone to write in the WSJ. Talk is cheap and that was ridiculously insincere. If the Koch’s don’t want to be guilty of being un-American, let them “walk the walk” and stop trying to buy our government for their own special interests to prevail.
You know that I can write a long bullet point list right here of all of the issues that the right wingers champion that would destroy our nation. I have done that many times before and you have refused to acknowledge those truths. You know that it is all true and yet you continue to deny the truths and “spin” the discussions in other directions with anecdotal tales that are insignificant in the broad scope of the issues.
Your responses to my postings mirror the interviews of Ted Cruz. When he is asked about black, he talks about white. When he is asked about “A”, he talks about “B”.
You should stay out of politics that you either do not understand or are in denial of, and stick to healthcare issues where your knowledge and understanding is superb.
