Our “encouraging” is discouraging

Participation in food stamps is increased. Unemployment is extended and extended again. Enrollment in Medicaid is increased by millions, Obamacare enrolled millions receiving government subsidies, Social Security becomes a larger and larger part of retirement income. Americans receiving Social Security disability skyrockets and it’s all “encouraging?”

I guess if your perspective is defining progress as how many Americans we can cause to be dependent on government welfare programs, all this is encouraging, success if you will.

Shouldn’t progressives have more positive goals?

Progress:
1. advancement — gradual improvement or growth or development; “advancement of knowledge”; “great progress in the arts”

I wish our leaders would put as much effort into making these programs unnecessary or striving to minimize participation. Our safety nets have become a bottom trawl.

Health Law Helps Increase Medicaid Rolls by 3 Million

WASHINGTON — Enrollment in Medicaid has increased by three million people, to a total of more than 61 million, largely because of the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration said Friday…

… “The increase in Medicaid enrollments across the country is encouraging,” said Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, who is trying to persuade more states to expand the program.
