Is Afghanistan the best use of our money?

Perhaps you agree that sending $904 million to Afghanistan to help them establish the rule of law is well spent. If you were one of the 150 women who are the victim of an honor killing each year because you won’t marry who you are told to, you might appreciate the rule of law as opposed to living under archaic tribal customs from the 7th century.

On the other hand, I keep hearing about all the children in America who go to bed hungry. So both may be worthy causes, but where are our priorities?

What do you say?

  1. Agreed, for the most part. But let’s not pound anymore money down the Afghanistan rat hole. As soon as our troops are gone, that nation will revert to civil war exactly as has happened in Iraq. Expensive Bush/Cheney “nation building” plunged our economy into a deep recession and helped only the huge corporations that build weapons of war. Elect Democrats to a House majority and retain the Senate. That will result in passage of the infra structure repair jobs bill and create millions of jobs. Stop the “NAFTA on steroids” TPP and the KXL Pipeline. The TPP will outsource even more US jobs and that pipeline will create at most 35 long-term jobs. Why risk ruining hundreds of acres of irreplaceable heartland farmland so Canada can export oil to China? I’m sure the Koch brothers’ Texas refineries would benefit, but they already have more money than they can spend on false campaign ads.

  2. Cut the dole in half and give 1/4 to the Afghans and 1/4 to our food banks. Food banks for the most part verify eligibility of recipients.

The rest of the $500 million should be used to educate and train workers as well as provide tax breaks to develop jobs.

We have got to get people off the dole!!
